Although the procedure is still ongoing, 44 people who had arrest warrants or for flagrant crimes had already been arrested and 13 firearms had been seized, including four rifles; in addition to war ammunition and different calibers, 13 vehicles and drugs.

An investigation that lasted almost two years by the High Complexity Unit of the Alto Hospicio Prosecutor’s Office together with the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Investigative Police, allowed this morning for a massive procedure to be carried out throughout the region with the objective to arrest the members of two important criminal gangs dedicated to trafficking and micro-trafficking of drugs and weapons in the region, substances that they acquired in Bolivia in exchange for stolen vehicles.

“This is a long-term investigation that, thanks to the use of different investigative techniques allowed by Law 20,000, allowed us to determine the existence of an illicit association to commit the crime of drug trafficking that operated in different communes in the region. This association was organized through a complete structure directed by a Chilean leader, who was arrested this morning, who, using his operational arms, exchanged stolen vehicles for drugs in the border area, which were then stored in different homes to be distributed. to consumers or resellers throughout the Tarapacá region,” explained Regional Prosecutor Trinidad Steinert, who together with the National Prosecutor, Ángel Valencia, was monitoring the procedure from the first hour at the command post of the PDI barracks and then went to Almonte Well.

The National Prosecutor highlighted the institutional commitment to continue carrying out mega operations in different places in the country. “We were in Cerrillo, in Arica, in Antofagasta, and now we are in Pozo Almonte. We are not only going to be in regional capitals, we are also going to be in all the communities that are being devastated by organized crime. There is an organized gang here. And this community not only saw drugs being trafficked, but also other serious crimes being committed. This effort is to restore peace of mind to citizens, to convey to them that they are not alone,” stressed the highest authority of the Public Ministry.

Three prosecutors and nearly 600 Investigative Police officials from different regions were in charge of the raid of 70 homes located in the Pozo Almonte commune, where the leader of the organization lived; Alto Hospicio, Iquique, Pica, Matilla, Colonia Pintados and Chanavayita.

Although the procedure is still ongoing, until the early hours of the afternoon, 44 people had been arrested who had arrest warrants or for flagrant crimes – two of them teenagers -; and 13 firearms had been seized, among which there were four rifles; in addition to war munitions of different calibers, 13 vehicles and drugs (cocaine hydrochloride, cocaine base and marijuana).
