Listen to our program ‘El café de hoy’ from May 30, 2024 here:

For the first time in Colombia, a bill to prohibit bullfighting has advanced so far, until it has completed its legislative journey of debates in the Senate and is only missing conciliation. We spoke with the senator who was the speaker of this initiative and with animal activists who have been fighting for the rights of bulls for decades.

However, not everything is finalized: there are those who say that the project does not have a fiscal guarantee and that could become a new problem, while the bullfighters point out that they will continue fighting for what they consider two solid arguments: the right to work of those They live off bullfighting and the defense of a cultural tradition, but how much influence does this have on the evolution of a society, facing the 21st century? What will happen to corralejas, cockfights, wildlife trade and other cases in which there is animal abuse?
