The parliamentarians demand more connectivity, access to drinking water, help for peasant family agriculture and strengthening of the institutions that support the development of communities.

In addition, they consider it important to expedite the delivery of land to indigenous peoples.

We also await signals from the president to comply with Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization on indigenous peoples in matters of justice, declared representative Emilia Nuyado.

He recalled that people of the Mapuche people deprived of liberty from time to time put their lives at risk by carrying out hunger strikes to demand respect for their rights enshrined in the treaties ratified by the Chilean State.

“Just as the government makes repeated announcements regarding police matters in the Wallmapu (Mapuche ancestral territory), today we demand to be an important part of the presidential announcements and not to be considered at the end of the message,” said Nuyado.

The claim is supported by legislators Erica Ñanco, Mónica Arce, Daniel Melo, Nelson Venegas and Jaime Naranjo.

The Chilean president will offer his third public account today at the headquarters of the National Congress in Valparaíso.
