After car sales registered the only increase of the year in April, with 11.2%, in May there was a drop again, this time of 5.5%.

In this way, the negative figure between January and May of this year reaches 7.5%. with a total of 70,710 units sold, according to data consolidated by the National Association of Sustainable Mobility (Andemos).

According to Andemos, during May the best-selling brand was Toyota, with 1,979 units, followed by Kia, with 1,944, Renault with 1,827, Chevrolet, with 1,544 and Mazda with 1,309. Of these brands, the only one that recorded positive figures was Kia, whose result was 46.8% higher than the previous month.

For its part, in the accumulated of the first five months of the year, Toyota remains in first place in units sold, with 10,981, with an increase of 6.0% compared to the same period in 2023.

In premium brand vehicles, sales during May totaled 611, with a drop of 7.7% and in the cumulative total of the year they totaled 2,473 units and a drop of 15.9% compared to the same period in 2023.

In electric and hybrid vehicles, sales during May reached 2,924, with an increase of 13.1%, the smallest increase of the year, after they rose 90.8% in April. In any case, so far this year, sales of this type of vehicles, which have special treatment in terms of taxes and restrictions by peak and plate, sales reach 16,061, which represents a growth of 47% compared to the first five months of 2023.

For its part, 67,534 motorcycles were sold during May, which represents an increase of 15.8% compared to April and during the first five months of the year, 319,798 were sold with an increase of 8.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
