Diario La Rioja: Massive cyberattacks

The theft of the data of 34 million drivers and vehicles stored in the main base of the General Directorate of Traffic is extremely serious. In just one week, those reported by Telefónica and Iberdrola have been added to this cyberattack, with hundreds … of thousands of people affected, and another that was confirmed by Banco Santander at the beginning of May. The alarm generated by the breaches opened by hackers in the security mechanisms of an organization dependent on the Ministry of the Interior and three such leading multinationals, which allocate considerable resources to protect the information in their possession, is natural. It is clear that cybercriminals have taken the lead and that such investments are insufficient. The chain of massive assaults that have circumvented some of the supposedly most sophisticated and inaccessible computer barriers in the country generates a climate of defenselessness in a society in which digitalization gains ground every day. The responsibility of institutions and companies to guarantee maximum protection of the data in their hands must be accompanied by extreme citizen caution in order to prevent possible scams with them.
