The Nacarí Society: 85 years of wine history in La Rioja

On June 2, 85 years ago, in Nonogasta, a milestone was established in the wine history of La Rioja with the creation of the Nacarí Society. The Wine Regulatory Board was promoted by Guillermo D. Iribarren who led the initiative, supported by Dr. Rafael Guevara.

After the construction of the Regional Wineries, the founding Commission of Nacarí, headed by Florencio Dávila San Román, assumed control. Dávila, former governor of La Rioja, together with Dr. Alfredo Larguía Dávila and visionary producers, laid the foundations of the organization. Pedro Zamora was elected as the first president, with the young winemaker Carlos A. Iribarren as secretary, who subsequently served as president on several occasions.

Over the years, the Nacarí Society has been promoted by dedicated producers, all committed to the quality of their wines, which has enhanced the reputation of La Rioja in the wine field. From its beginnings with Bordeaux wines to the iconic wicker-lined demijohns, the Society has maintained a constant search for excellence. Thanks to the optimal quality of the grapes produced by their partners, the innovative technology and the professional capacity of their winemakers, they managed to produce a Torrontés Riojano that surprised the jury in France, obtaining the prestigious Gold Trophy at the World Wine Competitions, known such as the Golden Oscar/Vinexpo/Bordeaux, followed by countless international distinctions.

The vicissitudes of business activity and the changing wine industry caused a parenthesis in the history of its more than eight decades. Even so, his life story did not end.
