The General Maritime Directorate, Dimar, through the Port Captaincy of Barranquilla, began the investigation to clarify responsibilities in the sinking of a vessel in the waters of the department of Atlántico and from which four crew members were rescued by Coast Guard personnel.

In a statement, Dimar, through the Port Captaincy of Barranquilla, “is permitted to inform public opinion regarding the sinking of the vessel named “Rachete 21”, with the Colombian flag, this Saturday, in coastal waters of the Atlántico, that once the emergency call was received by the captain of the vessel alerting about the entry of abundant water, as a result of the strong waves, officials from the maritime traffic control tower activated the immediate response protocol established with the maritime authorities In the area”.

It is reported that “in this way, the Barranquilla Coast Guard Command and the nearby vessels were alerted in a timely manner, so that they would go to the scene of the incident and provide the necessary support in the event of the emergency of the vessel “Rachete 21”, at the height of the municipality of Tubará, 5 miles from Puerto Velero.”

“Thanks to the timely reaction of Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy, the rescue of the four crew members was achieved, who were transferred to the beach area in Puerto Velero, where their health status was verified, without any complexity,” he notes. .

It ends by saying that “the maritime incident will be the subject of a jurisdictional investigation by the Maritime Authority in order to analyze and determine the responsibilities that may arise.”
