The Curichi La Madre (Municipal Protected Area of the Curichi la Madre Urban Ecological Preservation Park) located west of our city, stands out as an authentic natural treasure. Since its designation as a municipal protected area in 2007, with Municipal Ordinance No. 44/2007, this place has stood out for its importance for the population, by providing vital environmental functions for the entire population of Santa Cruz.

With an area of 49.2 hectares, this natural space is home to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (wetlands), which play a fundamental role in regulating the hydrological cycle and recharging aquifers. Likewise, thanks to its significant tree masses, it contributes to stabilizing the local climate, reducing winds, purifying the air, producing oxygen, thus becoming an indispensable ally for the environmental sustainability of the city.

Its forests help purify the air

These natural spaces also preserve an amazing diversity of flora and fauna that make it a unique ecosystem. From a wide variety of migratory birds to iconic species, wildlife flourishes here, offering a perfect setting for education, research and scientific tourism. Public and private universities in the city take advantage of this environment to study and train students in ecology, biodiversity and the environmental functions it provides to citizens.

This wetland stands out as a model of coexistence between nature and human activity, reminding us of the importance of preserving and valuing our natural resources. More than just a protected space, Curichi La Madre is a heritage shared by all the inhabitants of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a place to enjoy, learn and protect for future generations. Its conservation is not only a responsibility, but also an opportunity to strengthen our bond with nature and promote sustainable development in harmony with our environment.
