The movement in the position of first thin prosecutor before the Supreme Court of Justice – although it was sung by the arrival of Luz Adriana Camargo as attorney general – coincided with the request of former President Uribe to remove prosecutor Gilberto Villarreal from his case because, he considered, it did not provide him with all the procedural guarantees.

Villareal was in charge of the Uribe case until the indictment hearing. The former president and former senator is accused of being apparently responsible for the crimes bribery, bribery in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud. Now it will be Orjuela who assumes the flags of the accusing body in the following stages of the trial.

Prosecutor Orjuela is a lawyer from the Free University of Colombia, she has a specialization in criminal law and since 2012 he has been part of the prosecution body’s body of prosecutors.

Before coming to the Prosecutor’s Office, she was a magistrate of the Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Bogotá. In 2011 she sentenced Bernardo Morenoformer Secretary General of the Presidency of the Uribe government for the scandal of the chuzadas. As a circuit judge he ordered the seizure of assets from the pyramid of David Murcia Guzmán.

During his stay at the Prosecutor’s Office He has worked on investigations related to disappearances and forced displacement, corruption and crimes that affect the social health security system.

Orjuela Rodríguez will be the sixth prosecutor to assume powers in the Uribe case. Now she must prepare to uncover the cards that will allow her to test the apparent guilt of the former president in the crimes for which he was accused. The preparatory hearing for the oral trial will resume on July 10.

Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office requested that Prosecutor Orjuela also know in depth the related cases such as that of the lawyer Diego Cadena, that of Enrique Pardo Hasche and that of Álvaro Hernán Prada. They assured that during Francisco Barbosa’s prosecution there was disarticulation between the processes.

In any case, prosecutor Orjuela must maintain the theory that former President Uribe “sponsored” and “materialized” the strategy that sought false testimonies that benefited him and his brother Santiago Uribe in a process for paramilitarism and to harm the Senator Iván Cepeda, recognized as a victim of the case.

Justice, in this case, will have until 2026 to determine a ruling, when the crimes for which the 71-year-old politician is accused expire.
