Ciego de Ávila, June 5 (ACN) From good art, pioneers of the Ramón Domínguez de la Peña primary school, located in the town of Júcaro, in the south of the province of Ciego de Ávila and site of direct intervention of the international project Mi Costa, ratified the call to preserve natural resources by commemorating today the World Environment Day.

Students from the circle of interest of the aforementioned educational establishment starred in plays, recited poems and presented drawings, in the effort to raise awareness among local residents about environmental problems that threaten the survival of the planet and, therefore, that of its inhabitants.

The occasion was opportune to reward winners of the children’s creation contest “My action for the planet” and recognize the participation of the center’s students and teachers in various activities that took place since the second half of last May.

Yadir Medina, educator at the aforementioned school and person in charge of the Annex Classroom of the Mi Costa project, emphasized that the schedule included guided excursions through the mangrove forests surrounding the community, during which children and residents were taught about the importance of these ecosystems for preserve biodiversity and reduce vulnerabilities to climate change.

In addition, they held educational talks and cleanups in coastal areas, aimed primarily at eliminating plastic waste that puts the health of marine-coastal ecosystems at risk; craft workshops with recycled materials, and conferences on the rational use of energy carriers and adaptation based on ecosystems as an alternative to face the climatic variations prevailing on the planet.

Drawing workshops, reforestation work and special morning sessions were added, activities that confirmed the prominence of that school in environmental education work, which is recognized as a strength to implement the international Mi Costa project.

This international initiative is essentially aimed at implementing green solutions for adaptation to climate change and creating capacities in local residents to face adverse future scenarios.
