The rebel leader has a way of saying things that seems to paint with words in front of people, and they see the images represented in front of their eyes as in a painting.

This is what happens when Fidel Castro Ruz, from the portal of the City Hall – today the Municipal Museum – speaks with his futuristic vision to the pine trees gathered in the José Lacret Morlot park, a name given in honor of the Mambí general.

Its arrival occurs the day before, the sixth, and means the arrival of the Caravan of Freedom to the second island of the Cuban archipelago, a few months after the triumph of the Revolution. He tours it, exchanges with workers at the Colony hotel, talks with the locals during his journey and appreciates the local potential.

Full of joy at seeing the bearded men, the audience listens attentively to the Maximum Leader in his historic speech: “Finally, the Isle of Pines can begin a new history and an entirely Cuban history…”. The young lawyer presented the first Minimum Plan for the Social Economic Rehabilitation of the Isle of Pines, on June 7, 1959.

It presents the existing perspectives in tourism, livestock, cultivation and industry. It guides the elimination of the Special Free Trade and Tourist Zone, made effective the next day, June 8, by Law, which puts a stop to the dirty status created by Fulgencio Batista to cover up the shadowy business with the American mafia. It also indicates the reductions in the cost of passage by boat and plane, applied urgently, and the construction of the highway from La Fe to the isolated South.

Other proposals include the rapid promotion of livestock plans and town farms in the intervened large estates, the installation of the aqueduct and sewage of Nueva Gerona and La Fe, the promotion of agriculture with the introduction of tractors, the comprehensive conception of the first towns such as La Victoria, the growth of electricity generation, as well as the construction of homes, industries, dams, schools, the creation of jobs and the transfer of the Presidio Modelo, later converted into an agricultural polytechnic.

The residents support the Maximum Leader in his intervention, as they find a real and precise response to their long-standing needs and legitimate aspirations. A new stage begins for the forgotten Isle of Pines.

Fidel returns several times to check the works and the designed strategy, which has full support with the work of young Pineros and all of Cuba.

65 years after the extraordinary event, with the implementation of the Social Economic Strategy and creative resistance, the economy, food production, the rescue of vulnerable neighborhoods, science, innovation and social communication gain momentum with the participation of all and for the benefit of the people imbued with the popular movement #SentirPineroPorUn26EnEl24.
