Caicedo did not miss the opportunity to attack the president, who after 12 years took away the administrative power of the mayor of Santa Marta.

Everyone in Santa Marta knows that the family origin of that illegal mayor is from paramilitaries and parapolitics. His brother, several cousins and nephews. His friends, associates and financiers with the facade of businessmen are, in large part, drug traffickers.

The X social network has become the scene of constant confrontations between the leaders of Caicedismo and Pinedo. In his personal account, Carlos Caicedo mentioned President Gustavo Petrostating that the meeting of the mayor, then a candidate,
with alias ‘Camilo’ it was not just a hug.

“Everyone in Santa Marta knows that the family origin of this illegal mayor is from paramilitaries and parapolitics. His brother, several cousins and nephews. His friends, associates and financiers with the facade of businessmen are, in large part, drug traffickers. Clans that plague the city and the department, those who with the money of those groups corrupted the justice system and the registry so that they were granted the election that the people and Fuerza Ciudadana won at the polls,” said Caicedo.

He also mentioned that for months he has denounced Pinedo’s alliances with narcoparamilitarism, the intimidation they exerted in rural areas during the campaign and the wave of crimes that was unleashed during their government.

“They are the happy compadres who kill and eat the dead; those who mock justice. Those who brag shamelessly about their own criminal origins. Will the country finally become aware of whose hands Santa Marta is in?” added the former governor.

Furthermore, he assured that the problem of violence that shakes Santa Marta is the responsibility of that alliance between the self-defense groups and the mayor’s office. “We expect measures from the national government and justice,” he concluded.

Pinedo’s response

Mayor Carlos Pinedo did not take long to respond to Caicedo, stating that the situation of kidnapping and detention of which he was a victim when he was a candidate for mayor occurred during the administration of the Fuerza Ciudadana governments.

“In this administration, alias ‘Camilo’ is in the custody of the authorities, as are aliases ‘Muñeca’ and ‘El Menor’, members of the Conquistadoras Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada,” commented Pinedo, who also reminded Caicedo that this Self-Defense group, in an official video, stated that it supported the candidacies for the Governorate of Magdalena and the Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta in 2019.

In the district president’s publication, he attached the video of the armed group’s statement that complements his accusation regarding the support that existed at the time with the Fuerza Ciudadana candidates.

The political issue is still hot in Santa Marta, however, the only concrete thing at this moment is that the city has its mayor ratified by the different legal bodies and his name is Carlos Pinedo Cuello.
