Reactor 360: Cuban businessmen debate corporate culture

The private corporate services company AUGE held this Thursday Reactor 360, a space for exchange between Cuban businessmen, mostly private, where they discussed corporate culture and the need to promote business growth in the country.

Nearly 150 attendees attended the Meliá Habana Hotel, venue of the event, which included a panel of experts from the Center for the Study of Management Techniques (CETED), a dialogue on good corporate practices and the presentation of computer solutions for management.

The event ended with a space of networking among those present.

US measures for entrepreneurs

Included as a topic to be addressed at the Reactor 360 event, the measures recently announced by the US government to support the private sector in Cuba were analyzed at the meeting by the co-founder and general manager of AUGE, Oniel Díaz.

“Interest and skepticism” were the words that the business consultant used to describe the current state of things after the announcement of the Biden administration.

Díaz explained that this is an expansion of the term “entrepreneurs” by Washington, since these measures appeared during Obama’s mandate, focused on the private sector at that time: the self-employed or self-employed.

He stated that many doubts persist about how these regulations will now be implemented, particularly those related to the opening of bank accounts from Cuba and their subsequent operation.

In that sense, he commented that he believes it is unlikely that large banks would allow Cubans to create accounts, as happened in the past. Instead, he said opportunities could be found in smaller American banks.

Oniel Díaz defended the idea that the current private sector is not the same as when these measures appeared during the Obama administration. He exemplified that the so-called new economic actors already employ 35% of the workforce, had a 15% impact on the 2023 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and imported goods worth more than one billion dollars.

Corporate culture and tailored solutions

Reactor 360 was focused on thinking about corporate culture, with particular emphasis on leadership and its impact on business growth. The reflections were led by doctors Katy Herrera, Marusia Monagas and Rey Felipe González.

CETED experts addressed the importance of long-term strategic planning, despite the adverse context surrounding the operation of private MSMEs in the country.

The academics agreed that the challenges exist, but there must also be sufficient leadership to find creative solutions that allow them to be overcome and move towards the purpose set by each company.

In accordance with these ideas, at the event an exchange was held with the leaders of three companies with success in their performance: the private MSMEs Helados CID and Mercatoria, in addition to the state MSME Tecnoespuma.

Participants consulted by OnCuba They valued the event as positive, above all, for the possibility of connecting with other colleagues and finding solutions to common problems.
