The last day of athletics in the Intercollegiate Games was full of emotions, due to the head-to-head between Antioquia and Valle in the dispute for first place in the medal table.

Antioquia won two golds with Esilda Grandett, in the junior discus throw (35.65) and hammer throw (42.38), while Valle won the men’s 4×100 relay (43.34) and with María Paula Lloreda , who beat Valentina Mendoza from Santander in a spectacular finish, by just two hundredths of a second, to win the 400 meter hurdles.

And in the midst of that dispute, Bolívar, Tolima, Risaralda, Santander and Boyacá fished in troubled rivers, with victories in other events and leaving Antioqueños and Vallecaucanos equal with 15 gold medals each. But Antioquia placed first in the medal table of the Intercollegiate Games with a total of 15 gold, 16 silver and 3 bronze. Valle, for its part, finished in second place by having the fewest silver medals, with a total of 10, in addition to 5 bronzes. The podium was completed by Bogotá, with 10 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze.

Two of the winners of the other delegations on the closing day were Meyer Alfonso Valderrama from Boyacá and Daniela Alexandra Moreno from Santander, both in the 1,500 meters.

In the contest, which took place on the El Salitre track in Bogotá, nearly 650 athletes and coaches from 32 departments of the country participated, competing for the 69 gold medals.

Finally, in addition to Esilda Grandett (Antioquia), other athletes who won two gold medals: Yudisa Martínez (Valle), in high jump and javelin throw; Yeison González (Antioquia), in 200 meters and the 4×400 mixed relay, in addition to one more silver in the 400 meters; Gerónimo Cañizales (Valle), in the 110 meter hurdles and the 4×100 relay, and Emely Román (Bogotá), in the 80 and 150 meter dash.
