This Saturday night, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) declared red alert for the commune of Arauco, Biobío Region, due to the overflowing of the Pichilo River.

According to information provided by the General Directorate of Water (DGA), it was indicated that the rainfall network station of the aforementioned tributary is at the yellow alert threshold with an upward trend.

At the same time, according to information provided by DGA field personnel, the overflow of the river was reported in the sector “The Guzmanes”, without currently affecting people or damaging infrastructure.

On the other hand, the forecasts issued by the Chilean Meteorological Directorate rainfall is expected to continue during the course of the next few hours in the commune.

Considering these antecedents, which represent an increase in the risk associated with said variable, The regional management of Senapred Biobío in coordination with the Regional Presidential Delegation decreed the measure that will apply until the conditions of the event warrant it.

The organization indicated that, with the declaration of the red alert, all necessary and available resources will be mobilized to act, given the extent and severity of the event.
