Four people missing due to a landslide in Labranzagrande Boyacá

After a large landslide occurred in the Chaguanzá village of the municipality of Labranzagrande Boyacá, on June 9, the mayor’s office issued a statement confirming the disappearance of four people. Those affected were identified as Leónidas Hurtado, Edgar Maldonado, José Ramiro León Socha and Maria Luz Patricia Castro.

The municipal Mayor established and directed the Unified Command Post (PMU) in the village school, with the presence and support of Civil Defense, Army and firefighters of the municipality. At the disaster site, there are rescue units from the National Army, Civil Defense and Firefighters, along with canines trained for search and rescue.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, no positive signs of the missing people have yet been found; Landslides persist in the area, making search and rescue efforts difficult.

In addition, eight more homes are at risk due to the magnitude of the slide; These homes house children, older adults and disabled people, and their evacuation has already been ordered.

Search efforts will continue, as long as weather and security conditions allow.

“We ask for strength and wisdom to face this difficult situation” was the message sent by Mayor Jorge Enrique Vanegas to his fellow citizens, affected by the winter wave.
