Not even the intermittent rain has been able to stop the actions of the Santiago de Cuba experts to return the correct functionality to the equipment.

Under adverse weather conditions, specialists from the Electrical Industry Construction Company (ECIE) of Santiago de Cuba and the Operations Center work intensely to complete the general maintenance carried out on the 110 kilowatt (kV) transformer, located in the substation. number 2, which is located next to the Botanical Garden, in the city of Sancti Spíritus.

According to Roberto Hernández, Technical Director of the Electric Company of the province, this is a very complex job that for the first time requires the total disconnection of the transformer, the soul of said station, which began its commissioning in 2011 and until today it had not stopped.

The most complex work is planned for this Thursday, which should involve around 12 hours of disruption to the service on circuits 116, 117 and 119; because it requires the replacement of damaged gaskets, which cause oil leaks in the transformer.

These joints are manufactured on site by the specialists with the help of a machine that they brought with them and for this they use nitro vinyl, a type of rubberized fabric that allows the metal parts to be sealed.

The most complex work is planned for this Thursday, which should involve around 12 hours of disruption to the service.

On site, the electricians from Santiago work together with those from Sancti Spiritus to conclude the actions on the transformer, which has a weight of 63 tons, to which it is also necessary to add the oil that had been lost to complete the 16 tons that it carries for its construction. correct operation.

For Monday, June 17, experts in the electrical sector plan to carry out tests and correct any deficiencies that may remain, before commissioning the transformer and correctly restoring service.
