Through judicial means, a collective seeks to decriminalize abortion in SLP

In 2023, two groups that seek to decriminalize abortion in San Luis Potosí, Marea Verde SLP and ILEpresented initiatives to the State Congress to decriminalize the interruption of pregnancy.

However, as the initiatives were ignored in the legislative process, the collective ILE has fought to access abortion through judicial means, through individual protections (of which 7 have already been approved) and through collective protection.

Today, at a press conference, they explained that this trial of collective protection with file number 765/2024 filed in the Third District Court of the Ninth Circuit, it was issued by a civil association focused on women’s rights, which did not reveal its name for security reasons.

They pointed out that this is because: “the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation resolved that civil associations have the legitimacy to act legally on behalf of all the women of an entity.”

They explained that the state of Aguascalientes has already managed to decriminalize abortion through this means, so from this collective and the aforementioned AC, in San Luis Potosí they will seek to reach the same results.

“What we are looking for is that those who want to undergo the procedure, those who want toaccess health servicethey can do it without having to resort to dangerous practices“, without having to leave the state to practice it or without having to be misinformed to perform the procedure alone but rather they can perform it with specialized medical care.”
