The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Madurocalled this Thursday on businessmen and their Government to increase exports to Colombia, in order to balance the trade balance with the neighboring country, tilted until now towards imports from Caracas.

In an event with businessmen from the state of Mérida, the president announced the increase in imports to Venezuela from Colombia by 54% between January and May of this yearor, compared to the same period in 2023.

Likewise, exports to the Andean country grewn by 16%, a result that he considered insufficientso he called to work more.

”There should be an even, balanced, growing scale. If the Andes were all, in a large economic zone, with joint plans, we defined the strengths of an export offer with quality and the prices that we can produce, we would turn this balance around,” he considered.

In his opinion, Venezuelan products “have better quality,” among which he named yogurt, coffee, meat, milk, chicken, cheese and “everything.”

In February 2023, Venezuela and Colombia signed a trade agreement to promote the reestablishment of relationswhich were broken for almost four and a half years until August 2022.

In 2023, Venezuela generated 758 million dollars from non-oil exports.
