A man identified as Néstor Luis Rivas González was prosecuted for his alleged responsibility in the death of a couple of homeless people, in events that occurred on June 7 in Canal Bogotá.

According to the investigation, the man attacked the two people with a firearm and was captured in flagrante delicto by the National Police. In the possession of the defendant, the gun believed to have been used to commit the homicide and a cell phone on which he was making a video call at the time of the crime and through which he apparently received instructions were found.

At the time it was learned that the man entered the Bogotá Canal at the height of Eighth Avenue and after an exchange of words he attacked a couple who were there with gunshots, hitting the man six times and hitting the woman three times. She was taken to a hospital, but died due to the severity of her injuries. Minutes later Rivas was captured by the Police when he tried to flee the scene.

A prosecutor from the Northern Section of Santander charged the defendant with the crimes of homicide and manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition, both aggravated, charges that were not accepted by Rivas.

A guarantee control judge imposed a measure of deprivation of liberty on the defendant in the Cúcuta Model Prison.
