The Municipality of Salta, through the Active Culture Agency and the Tourism Entity, carried out the lighting of the Historic Town Hall this Sunday, June 16. It was on the occasion of remembering the National Day of Latin American Freedom and on the eve of commemorating the 203rd anniversary of the passage to immortality of General Martín Miguel de Güemes.

In addition to remembering Latin American freedom, the greatest gaucho hero was honored, who played a central role at the head of the militias that defended the north of our country in the wars for Independence. His actions, in coordination with those of General José de San Martín, facilitated the crossing of the Andes to successfully develop the liberation campaign.

The event began at 7 p.m. with the lighting of the lights on the Cabildo esplanade, which was dyed by the colors blue and white.

The ceremony featured the participation and performance of the “25 de Mayo” Municipal Music Band with an outstanding repertoire that included the National Anthem and the anthem to the hero Martín Miguel de Güemes. For this occasion, the Band of the “General Don Martín Miguel de Güemes” Officers School was also present.

Likewise, they accompanied with their dance the folkloric ballet “Tradición Salteña” by Professor Villagra.

Ariana Benavídez, coordinator of the Culture Agency, expressed: “surprised and happy by so many people, it is a special day, the Town Hall has been illuminated with the performance of the “25 de Mayo” municipal band of Salta. And today especially a guest band that comes from Ciudad Evita, Buenos Aires, which is the Band of the “General Don Martín Miguel de Güemes” Gendarmerie School.
