Havana/The Consulate General of Spain in Havana announced that starting this Monday the birth certificates, for obtaining the DNI, marriage and death certificates that are managed at its headquarters can be obtained digitally via email.

The certificates “that are requested through the website “will be sent with an electronic signature and Secure Verification Code (CVS) to the email address indicated in the application,” specified the consular representation in a note published on its website. .

The measure is welcomed by thousands of Cubans with Spanish nationality and residents outside the capital who must travel from their provinces to obtain these documents.

“For people who wish to go to the Consulate General to collect the certificate in physical format, the document will be available on the day of the reserved appointment”

The consulate specified in its note that “it will not be necessary to go in person to pick them up on the day of the appointment reserved for this purpose.”

Cuba is the country where the most people have obtained Spanish nationality under the new Democratic Memory Law, which offers the option of obtaining it to a wide range of descendants of Spaniards.

As of January 31, 2023, according to data made public by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 24,729 applications had been submitted to that country’s 179 consular offices around the world, most of them in Latin America.
