From Saturday, June 15, 2024, the 50th edition of the Colombian Folk Festival began in Ibagué. The celebration will take place until June 30, which will have a program of various events that include reigns, fairs, exhibitions, concerts and parades.
In this way, the city will become the epicenter of national folklore that aspires to reach record figures for tourism and commerce. Apart from the Folklore Meeting, There are multiple activities planned this year by the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué and the Government of Cundinamarca within the framework of the festivities of San Juan and San Pedro.
“We are going to have our departmental reign, municipal reign, two great parades on June 22 and 23, the National and International Parade on June 30, where we will have the visit of Hungary and Mexico, with their troupes and all their folkloric displays. Additionally, the Festival’s Super Concert will be held with great figures in music,” Naydú Romero Gómez, Secretary of Economic Development of Ibagué, stated in an official statement.
On the other hand, the concert will take place on Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 pm at the Manuel Murillo Toro stadium and will feature artists such as Silvestre Dangond, Grupo Niche, Sergio Vargas, Juan Carlos Zarabanda, Andy Rivera and Los de Juancho.
In addition, from June 28 to July 1, at the Agricultural, Industrial and Bovine Fair, there will be four free concerts at the Coliseum in the Las Ferias neighborhood, in which Orlando Liñán, La 33, Juan Carlos Zarabanda, Los Corraleros de Majagual, the tribute to the Rayos of Mexico, the Congo de Ibagué orchestra, the emulator of Yeison Jiménez and different vallenato groups.
According to Romero and the statement issued by the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué, in 2023 around 286,000 people arrived to enjoy the event, so the goal for 2024 is to welcome approximately 400,000 tourists to the city.
“Last year we sold around 60,000 tamales on Tamale Day and this year the mayor has proposed that we sell more than 80,000. So, we are very positive because the city has had a very strong media plan and we want many people to come to enjoy this festival,” she assured.
Romero also explained that 90% of the investment to organize all the activities was in charge of the Mayor’s Office of Ibaguéwith support from the Government of Tolima and other sectors.
“The contract was made for 8,000 million pesos, for everything that the theme of the reigns represents and what needs to be done in terms of typical costumes, dances and parades. But it is estimated that the return on investment will be 7.5 times greater, since the entire city, the department and the economy in general, businesses, shopping centers, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and all commerce in the city are energized. ”Romero concluded.
For her part, the mayor of Ibagué, Johana Aranda, invited Colombians to participate in this traditional festival that highlights the culture and folklore of the center of the country.
“We extend a cordial invitation to immerse yourself in the joy of this new edition, and, of course, “We invite our Colombian compatriots and foreign visitors to honor us with their presence and marvel at this unique experience.”the president stated in the statement.
