The only title won by the Colombian team in the history of the Copa América came in 2001, led by a team made up of some references such as Óscar Córdoba, Fabián Vargas, Gerardo Bedoya and Iván Ramiro Córdoba, and directed by Francisco Maturana.

After 23 years, some of the soccer players who made up this team met again in a restaurant in Bogotá to remember that historic moment for Colombian soccer.

Fabián Vargas, a midfielder who is remembered for his time at Boca Juniors, in Argentina, and Almería, in Spain, shared some moments from the dinner on his social networks. There, the song with which they will support Néstor Lorenzo’s Colombian team and with which they remember the 2001 title by the hand of Pacho Maturana.

“Anyone who thinks that Colombia is going to win has to know that it is so, that Colombia was champion with Maturana”says the lyrics of the song that was sung by the former soccer players and enjoyed by the historic coach.

Meanwhile, the former midfielder revealed that more than 15 years have passed since the last meeting between the champions: “The best thing about seeing each other again after 15 years was singing to the teacher and sending encouragement to the National Team that is in the United States. This should happen more often, thank you very much, friends, for that meeting.”
