They carry out accessibility surveys in public and private organizations

Architectural and design barriers for people with disabilities are identified.

The Ministry of Human Development, Local Governments and Women, through the Undersecretary of Disability, is carrying out accessibility surveys in public and private organizations based on agreements that allow for scheduling tours of the buildings.

In this sense, not only public service spaces are included, but also administrative offices, thinking about the autonomy, safety and comfort of workers.

In addition, work is being carried out with the Banco de la Provincia del Neuquén (BPN) in order to identify architectural and design barriers, improve signage and provide accessible information to people with disabilities.

The branches of Félix San Martin, Alta Barda and Alcorta in the city of Neuquén were visited and the location of the building, access characteristics, entrance with a unique design or stairs and ramp, podotactile signage, accessible toilets, types of opening of the offices were evaluated. doors that allow or prevent comfortable circulation, information with a speaker, among others.

They are working on a diagnosis that will allow, once the architectural, communication and attitudinal barriers have been detected, to be able to work on a concrete action plan. This has to do with infrastructure issues such as the assembly of signage on posters in Braille, with pictograms in large type letters and everything that has to do with training for personnel from a disability perspective and in a workshop with sign language.

In another establishment where surveys were carried out this year, it was in the thermal baths and the Termal de Caviahue spa; in addition to the Copahue thermal complex, where work is already underway on modifications. In the historic center of the town of Plaza Huincul, work is being done on modifications to the sidewalks on Main Avenue.

Other spaces visited were the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Comahue; the Neighborhood Commission Barrio 14 de Octubre – Copol; the Neuquén Provincial Education Council and the Weatherford company and Espacio DUAM.

All of these actions aim to progressively guarantee accessibility to physical spaces, promoting public policies that make effective the rights of people with disabilities, and their equal participation in society.

Universal Accessibility

It is a principle of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that guarantees equal opportunities and the principle of autonomy.

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) directly related to building accessibility is SDG 11: “Achieve sustainable cities and communities.” Within this goal, Target 11.7 focuses on providing universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible spaces, in particular for women and girls, people with disabilities and older people.
