Historic first corneal ablation at the Zapala hospital: “We are very proud”

For the first time, corneal ablation was performed at the Zapala hospital which allowed two people from the province to be successfully implanted.

Daniela Bolzicco, in charge of the Intensive Care department of the Zapala Hospital and leader of the Hospital Unit for the Procurement of Organs and Tissues (UHPROT), said that Last year they started working with organ donation and mentioned the joint work with CUCAI Neuquén and INCUCAI, to have the unit in the local hospital.

“The procedure was carried out without any complications.. We have our first corneal ablation performed inside the hospital, which is a historical fact because it is something that is being done for the first time in the town,” said the specialist.

The UHPROT team “is made up of around ten hospital professionals, including doctors from different specialties, such as traumatologists, gynecologists and intensivists; obstetricians; nurses in the intensive care room and on duty; general medicine residents; and surgical instrumenters,” noted the official Neuquén Informa website.
