The Penante, in the Urbano Girardi

The independent theater group “Los Pejertos” will stage the one-man show “El penante” written and directed by Manuel Maccarini. The play stars Roberto Albarenga.

A strange subject enters the theater; He claims to be the character of an unfinished work, abandoned by its author. Immediately he takes over the stage and makes proposals to us. His arguments are not convincing, much less his appearance. He tells us events of a tortuous experience, in constant conflict with his creator. For this he uses universal literature. They are stories contained in books that he jealously guards. Thus, he establishes correspondences and analogies for us in a great stew of the divine, human and artistic conception. The sum is absurd, borders on the absurd and ends in humor. But soon the dramatic puzzle will be put together so that we, from the audience, can understand the real life of such an unusual character.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Manuel Maccarini is a theater director, teacher, playwright, narrator and essayist. He was born in 1948, in the province of Tucumán. His theatrical career linked to an important family artistic tradition began in the complex sociopolitical panorama of Tucumán in the 1970s. Since then, he has become one of the most productive intellectuals on the Argentine Northwest scene, an activity evidenced in the dozens of productions theatrical releases in Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán and even other cities in the country, Buenos Aires, La Plata, Resistencia, Corrientes and Catamarca among others, the latter being his current place of residence.
