The peasant and indigenous community of the town of Usenda, in the rural area of ​​the municipality of Silvia, Cauca, denounced the presence of alleged guerrillas of the National Liberation Army, ELN, who carried out an illegal checkpoint on the road that connects this municipality with Piendamó.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, when the individuals, dressed in military clothing, carrying rifles and bracelets alluding to the insurgent group, went out onto the road to stop vehicles and request documents from drivers traveling along the road corridor.

The communities also reported that the subjects painted graffiti on the facades of several homes in the surrounding villages, such as El Jardín and Usenda, increasing fear among the residents of these areas.

In response to this fact and with the aim of preventing attacks, the Police of the municipalities of Piendamó and Silvia activated a defense plan, while the Army moved several units to this sector of the center of Cauca to protect the civilian population.

The situation has generated great concern among the inhabitants of the region, who demand greater security and forceful actions by the authorities to stop the group’s illegal activities and guarantee tranquility in their communities.
