The former mayor of Pereira, Carlos Alberto Maya, who was in office between 2020 and 2023, was captured in Bogotá on the afternoon of this Friday, June 21. The facts for which he will have to respond to justice have to do with possible irregularities in the contracting of the first phase of Los Colibríes Avenue. The former secretary of infrastructure, Milton Hurtado, was also captured in Pereira.

Sources confirmed to this newspaper that the capture was carried out by members of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor’s Office. The former official will be transferred to the bunker and will later attend a hearing before a guarantee control judge.

Since January of this year, the current mayor of the capital of Risaralda, Mauricio Salazar, has been making a series of complaints about alleged irregularities in the construction process of Los Colibríes Avenue. The local leader asked to investigate possible cost overruns in the work that remains unfinished.

In one of their complaints, made in the month of January to Snail RadioSalazar explained that the first interventions had to be delivered in March; However, by then they were not even 70% complete.

Regarding the cost overruns of the 3.4 kilometer work in its first phase, which initially promised to “decongest the high vehicle saturation of the Pereira – Cerritos dual carriageway,” these would have exceeded $20,000 million.
