The general Helder Giraldo, commander of the Military Forces, assured that the possibilities of a ceasefire with the dissidents of the Second Marquetalia They are open.
Precisely, that will be one of the discussions at the opening of the dialogue table this June 24 in Caracas (Venezuela) between the Government delegation and the dissidents led by alias Iván Márquez.

“At the moment there are some approaches, they begin to discuss these issues at the negotiation table on Mondaywe will be there attentive, we have a military observer who will be present, also giving the recommendations of the case“said General Giraldo at a press conference.
The military observer, as explained by the general, will be at the table to make observations that could be applied with the Second Marquetalia, based on experiences that have been generated with the other dialogues carried out by the Government.
“The Second Marquetalia is a threat, it is a narcoterrorist group that has been implementing these actions against the civilian population and the public force, against the infrastructure, but I believe that hopefully, God allows this to be the way to follow,” added the general. Giraldo.
Negotiations with Second Marquetalia will be carried out under the “agreed agreement, agreement fulfilled” model that will cover the design, start-up, implementation and verification phases.

The agenda between the dissidents and the government will be focused on five basic points: de-escalation of the conflict and readiness of the territory, construction of territories of peace, victims as a transformative social subject, conditions for peaceful coexistence and implementation and verification.
The Second Marquetalia was born in 2019 when a group – made up of aliases Iván Márquez, Jesús Santrich, El Paisa and Romaña – decided to desert the Peace Agreement and take up arms again. The illegal group has a majority presence in the south and west of the country, as well as in the departments bordering Venezuela.
