On the afternoon of last Sunday, June 23, a shooting occurred in La Picota prison, located in the south of Bogotá; Two councilors from the municipality of Mosquera, Nariño, were injured after being shot at by unknown individuals after visiting a convict in Ward 8.

The incident occurred around 4:00 in the afternoon, when the councilors were leaving the detention center.

According to authorities, the lobbyists were attacked by gunfire and immediately taken to a medical center to receive care.

One of the politicians, 36 years old, suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh, which caused a fracture.

Fortunately, he is stable after receiving medical attention.

The other councilman, a 40-year-old man, has gunshot wounds to the abdomen, right arm and right leg. Due to the severity of his injuries, he will undergo several surgeries.

The convicted person whom the councilors would have visited is in prison for crimes related to drug trafficking.

It should be noted that La Picota prison is known for its high security, especially in pavilion 8, where some of the most dangerous criminals in the country are held.

Authorities are investigating the incident to identify those responsible and clarify the motives behind the attack.
