New US$460 million photovoltaic project enters environmental processing in the Atacama Region

If approved environmentally, and comply with the associated sector permits, its execution could begin in the first half of 2026.

Monday, June 24, 2024.- The company FRV Services Chile SpA entered into environmental processing a new photovoltaic project, which will be located in the commune of Vallenar, in the Atacama Region.

With an estimated investment of US$460 million, the “Las Cunas Photovoltaic Park” project consists of the construction and operation of a solar plant whose objective is the generation of electrical energy from photovoltaic technology.

Likewise, the project contemplates the installation of 871,119 photovoltaic panels on horizontal trackers of one axis, reaching a surface area of panels of approximately 630.95 hectares, of which 425.45 hectares will correspond to the effective intervention surface by these works. Each photovoltaic module will have a power of 620 W and will be of the bifacial monocrystalline or similar type.

Regarding the electrical energy that the solar park will generate, it will be evacuated through a 1x 220 kV aerial high voltage electrical transmission line (LAT). This line will have a length of approximately 14.7 km and will be supported by 53 reticulated metal self-supporting structures.

According to the schedule, if the Las Cunas Photovoltaic Park is environmentally approved, and the associated sector permits are complied with, its execution could begin in the first half of 2026. Meanwhile, the construction period is estimated at 2,024 months.
