The Parlasur Human Rights Commission, chaired by Victoria Donda, will hold today the first public hearing in the region on political violence and hate speech at the Buenos Aires headquarters of the Metropolitan University of Workers, UMET. The initiative carried out by the former national representative, former head of INADI and elected regional parliamentarian in the last elections, is an open call to actors and organizations with the objective of carrying out diagnoses and drawing up proposals in public policies on the defense of human rights in the region.

Under the name “Public Hearing on Political Violence and hate speech: its impact on Human Rights policies in the region”, the activity will take place starting at 3 p.m. The presence of dozens of representatives of civil society is expected, some of whom will exhibit in person and others virtually to guarantee access from other parts of the country.

Interested organizations can register until today in a publicly accessible link that Parlasur made available on its website. The event already has more than 60 registered representatives representing organizations of vulnerable groups, from the world of interreligiousness, health, against racism, bullying, against LGTIBQ violence, femicides, political violence in general.

The meeting is framed in the preparation of the Mercosur Annual Report in accordance with the Constitutive Protocol. It is expected that after this first hearing, the Commission will hold hearings in the rest of the region to listen to those attending. “The participation of various actors and organizations is crucial to enrich the debate and strengthen the protection of human rights in the region,” the organizers detail.

The meeting will take place this Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. at UMET, Sarmiento 2037 (CABA), and can be followed live virtually on the Parlasur YouTube channel.
