Córdoba: Unemployment fell, but a third of those employed are looking for another job – EREDACCION – Córdoba

According to the INDEC (National Institute of Statistics and Censuses), in Córdoba, unemployment in the first quarter of 2024 fell 9 tenths compared to the same period in 2023: 7.6% versus 8.5%. However, the salient data is that 32.1% of the people of Córdoba in Greater Córdoba who make up the “active population” are employed job seekers. It is the highest figure in the country.

The “job seekers” are people who work more than 45 hours a week, but whose income is not enough to make ends meet and who seek to work more or change to a better job, but are unable to do so. It is the main symptom of the crisis.

In Río Cuarto, on the other hand, unemployment fell from 5.4% to 3.4%, that is, 2 percentage points between 2023 and 2024. This is a figure of full employment. In principle, the impact of the growth of agricultural activity, one of the three activities that accelerated in the first three months of the year, would have had an impact on this scenario.

Fourth quarter

In turn, underemployment in Greater Córdoba went from 11% to 17.4%, a jump of 6.4 pp. Here, the underemployed job seekers are 16.2%.

Meanwhile, in Río Cuarto, underemployment went from 7.2% in the first quarter of 2023 to 0.6% in the first three months of this year, a drop of 6.6 pp.
