G7 LEADERS AGREE TO FREEZE RUSSIAN ASSETS
The United States and European countries have agreed to freeze Russian assets as long as Russia “pays” reparations for its invasion of Ukraine, a US official said Thursday. The move paved the way for a $50 billion credit package for Ukraine at the Group of Seven summit, where US President Joe Biden signs a security deal with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. CHINA CALLS FOR PROMOTING INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FOR PEACEFUL DEVELOPMENT
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for promoting an international environment favorable to peaceful development. All countries, particularly large ones, must seek true multilateralism, advocate for an egalitarian and orderly multipolar world, and adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, the president emphasized. In a video speech broadcast on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Xi warned that the world today is experiencing more rapid changes not seen in a century, and peace and development face new challenges. PALESTINIAN CHILDREN IN NEED OF HUMANITARIAN AID WILL ARRIVE IN COLOMBIA
The Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Elizabeth Taylor, announced the upcoming arrival to the South American nation of Palestinian children in need of humanitarian aid, local media report. “We have made the decision to provide humanitarian support to some Palestinian children who would travel with their families to Colombia for rehabilitation, and we expect the support of the Military Hospital,” explained the Vice Chancellor, after a meeting in which she participated, as part of a delegation accompanying President Gustavo Petro, on an official visit to Sweden. BRAZILIAN COURT ANNULS DISCLAIMER SENTENCE AGAINST BOLSONARO
The Superior Electoral Court (tse) of Brazil annulled one of the two convictions against former President Jair Bolsonaro, which disqualified him from running in future elections, in this case, the one related to the electoral use in 2022 of the official acts of September 7 . The sentence was imposed in November 2023, and carried an eight-year suspension. Despite the acquittal, Bolsonaro remains disqualified at least until 2030, due to two other sanctions, Agencia Brasil reported. (The Day)
