In a decision that has generated controversy, the Fourth Court of Knowledge of Santa Marta granted freedom to Yenni Alexandra Higuera Casallas, who was facing charges for the alleged death by immersion of her 15-month-old son.
The tragic incident occurred on Buritaca beach on April 3, 2022, in the Guachaca township area.
The baby’s father, Edwin Guerrero Sánchez, expressed his indignation at the judicial resolution, fearing that his son’s case would go unpunished. The decision to release Yenni was based on the expiration of terms, due to postponements in hearings and difficulties in transferring witnesses from Buritaca to Santa Marta.
Guerrero lamented the situation and questioned justice, stating that even the best lawyers could not have changed the outcome.
Let us remember that Yenni Alexandra Higuera Casallas was captured in Bogotá by the Children and Adolescents Section of the Santa Marta Metropolitan Police, accused of aggravated homicide. Despite the accusations of the Prosecutor’s Office, Judge John Álvarez decided to release her, highlighting the evident negligence in the process on the part of the Attorney General’s Office.
