He went almost invisible among the commentariat, but last weekend the government of the fourth party in the state of Mexico, the Morena administration of Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, assumed the role of heir to the ideology of the creator of the Atlacomulco Group. Nothing more, nothing less.

The speech of the Secretary General of Government, Horacio Duarte Olivares, who was in Atlacomulco to commemorate the 142nd anniversary of the birth of the ideologist and legendary leader of the Atlacomulco Group, Isidro Fabela Alfaro, adopted the Fabelist principles.

He literally said: “Today the Fourth Transformation vindicates Isidro Fabela Alfaro, because I am sure that Fabela would be a man of transformation, today more than ever the different political expressions are called to form a united block and work, as Fabela did, for the historical struggles of the people of the State of Mexico.”

Duarte Olivares added that “the great legacy of Isidro Fabela” is present in the governments of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez “and very soon of the virtual president-elect, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.”

Isidro Fabela is credited with the creation of the Atlacomulco Group, whose lineage provided governors for the State of Mexico for almost a century. Fabela was born in Atlacomulco. He studied at the National School of Jurisprudence. In 1909, he participated in the Ateneo de la Juventud alongside figures such as José Vasconcelos, Antonio Caso and Alfonso Reyes. He was successively a supporter of Maderismo and a supporter of Carrancismo. In 1914, Venustiano Carranza named him Secretary of Foreign Relations, as well as Mexico’s representative to the League of Nations. From 1942 to 1945, he was governor of the State of Mexico and between 1946 and 1952, he served as a judge at the International Court.

In the politics of the State of Mexico and nationally, he promoted his friends, relatives and countrymen: Alfredo del Mazo Velez, Salvador Sánchez Colín, Juan Fernández Albarrán, Carlos Hank González, among others… and his role as peacemaker in the face of the political factions that fought tooth and nail —literally— for power in the State of Mexico is remembered. He was the man who created the concepts of unity, discipline and institutionality that have characterized the politicians of this federal entity called Mexico for more than half a century.

Because unlike what happens in other states of the country, here the political and governmental class privileges institutionality. It is evident that despite the change of party in the state Executive Branch, the representatives of the powers maintain an organic, articulated character, willing to collaborate. And united.

So yes, it is surprising that the fourth party assimilates the principles or ideals of the person who created a political group that governed the state for almost a century and some of whose members plundered its public resources. Although Fabela was a statesman, a promoter of law, justice, unity, neutrality, and high public morality. Solidarity, humanist, and anti-imperialist. And given his work, it is easy to identify with his ideology.
