Before the approval in second reading of the Penal Code bill, the senator of the Duarte province, Franklin Romero, He indicated that the commission in charge of studying the legislative piece gave him “a blow in the face.”

He explained that when studying the proposal, the commission, of which he is a member, determined that only two articles, 187 and 188, would be amended and that “no modifications would be made, seeking to be consistent with the Code approved in the past.”

However, and although he did not name any names, the senator from La Vega who submitted the project, Rogelio Genao, submitted six modifications. The president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, submitted one modification and Faride Raful, vice president, submitted two. All were approved.

Franklin Romero said that after presenting his bill to the Senate, law on chemical castration To modify article 131 of the old code, he told the commission that he was aware of the piece about including his proposal in this new project and that its members assured him that it should be left out so that the code could be approved.

“However, That is what is called a stalking stick because the modifications that were not presented to the commission are being submitted. and they did not accept our project,” he said, although he expressed that it would not be an obstacle to the approval of the new Penal Code.

He said he hopes that it will be recorded that he presented his draft bill and that it was the committee that refused to include it.

The Senate of the Republic approved the draft law on the Penal Code in its second reading on Wednesday with 20 votes in favor of the 22 legislators present.

Only Faride Raful, senator for the National District, and Yván Lorenzo, from Elías Piña, voted against.

The bill will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies for review and approval.
