The Regional Autonomous Corporation (CAS) has warned about the discovery of a red crab in a lagoon in the municipality of Villanueva, Santander, identifying it as an invasive species dangerous for both the environment and human health.

This crab, also known as red shrimp, can carryr viruses and parasites that affect the brain, making it a significant threat. Due to these risks, consumption of the red crab is highly discouraged.

In addition to health problems, the presence of the red crab also causesgoose erosion in the areas where they build their nests.

These crabs dig caves in the protected areas of lagoons, rivers and ravines.das, which generates cracks and landslides. These excavation activities cause gullies and internal landslides, affecting the stability of the lagoons and the natural environment.

CAS is currently conducting inspections at the lagoon to ensure thatto locate more specimens of this invasive species. So far, the presence of the red crab has not been found in the Fonce River, but the situation continues to be closely monitored to prevent its spread and mitigate potential environmental and health impacts.
