A boost to education and values for Mexican children

Those small codes of conduct that allow us to have a good development in society and relate in a respectful way with others are known as values, which are key in the development of every human being.

Unfortunately, the lack of adequate education, attention in the family unit or the lack of opportunities such as attending school, causes the values of Mexican children to be lost, increasing the possibility of having conflicts both on a personal and social level.

Promoting them is part of Individual Social Responsibility (ISR) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), since doing so supports different areas such as personality development, self-discipline, and the emotional well-being of girls, boys and young people.

In our country, there are foundations and companies that are aware of this, and are therefore generating initiatives that support future generations in this area. Do you want to know how they do it? We’ll tell you!

Gigante Foundation promotes the values of Mexican children

Known for being the social arm of Grupo Gigante and Grupo Presidente, Fundación Gigante is a non-profit organization that is actively involved in educational and fundraising activities through different social benefit programs.

That is why for 9 years it has promoted the program Giant Spirit Rugbyan initiative generated by former rugby players of French origin and which, in alliance with the aforementioned business foundation, seeks to promote values called DRIPS (Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Passion and Solidarity) in girls, boys and young people, and also to keep them off the streets.

Remember that rugby was born more than 200 years ago and consists of moving the ball over the opponents’ goal line and bringing it to the ground to score points. This sport encourages teamwork and discipline, since not much can be achieved individually. Only by working together can players advance in the game.

It is worth noting that in 2009, World Rugby member countries identified DRIPS as the defining characteristics in building the character of rugby, and these are currently the values of rugby, the same as the program Giant Spirit Rugby seeks to promote in Mexican youth and children.

Thanks to this program, we have been able to support more than 400 girls, boys and young people through various teams participating in tournaments; however, to continue making this possible, more financial resources are needed.

So to raise funds, Grupo Presidente in alliance with Bordeaux, during its presence in Mexico, held a dinner for a cause to benefit the aforementioned program.

Dinner with a cause in favor of Mexican children

The event took place on May 9, 2024 at the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental, where members of the Rugby committee and various guests seeking to support the cause were present.

The participants were enthusiastic, as they commented that this initiative arose because both Grupo Presidente and Fundación Gigante and rugby share common values. In this regard, Julien Debarle, Director of Operations GP and the Rugby Spirit Gigante Committee, states:

“This program started 9 years ago with the support of the foundation and a group of friends. We all have one thing in common: rugby has helped us become the men and women we are today.”

During the dinner with a cause, guests could enjoy the excellent food that always characterises Grupo Presidente, as well as Bordeaux wines, which are undoubtedly one of the most important references for all wine lovers. These are produced in around 9,000 wineries called châteaux if they are associated with a specific vineyard, with grapes from around 14,000 wine producers.

During the event, diners were able to enjoy not only this dinner and wine tasting, but also the pleasure of supporting those who need it most to achieve a strong impact by promoting the values of Mexican children and young people.

“Grupo Presidente has participated as part of Fundación Gigante, which has allowed us to bring the best Bordeaux wines to host the foundation and obtain the resources to continue supporting children and young people with everything they need to play rugby.”

Emmanuel Paul Denis, master of ceremonies for the dinner with a cause.

Paul Denis also shares that although sport seems rough, it has many values of discipline, courage, respect and camaraderie that are what we promote today through sport.

Why is this dinner with a cause a CSR action?

It is important to mention that CSR is inherent to the company and it ensures that its operations are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable, seeking the sustainability of current and future generations.

When we talk about CSR, we also talk about making commitments to global initiatives such as the 2030 Agenda, which is made up of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of them is SDG 4: Quality education.

Through it, we seek to guarantee inclusive, equitable and quality education, as well as promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Through Giant Spirit RugbyFundación Gigante contributes to this SDG as well as to SDG 10: Reduction of inequalities, promoting values of Mexican children through rugby and keeping them off the streets. An effort that undoubtedly deserves to be recognized!
