The government stressed the lack of maintenance by the previous administration and countered the opposition’s request for an audit.

The controversy following the derailment of the Children’s Republic train reached the City Council, where, after a request for information by the libertarian block of Buenos Aires Libre, the ruling party focused on Julio Garro’s administration.

“It is very regrettable what happened over the weekend with the Children’s Republic train, and that is why this municipal administration headed by Alak, urgently requested an audit about the alleged works that were done in 2017 and the maintenance that it had or should have had” said the first vice president of the body, Councillor Juan Manuel Granillo Fernandez.

The councillor also assured that the necessary tests will be carried out and reports will be requested from the organisations that the previous administration said had participated in the works to remodel the tracks and the train.

Granillo emphasized that “we noticed a lack of total control over the games, the Train and the Boat of the Republic, which is very worrying because the lives of all users are at stake and that is what worries us most about how Garro’s administration left the Republic.”

It should be remembered that, in recent days, lLibertarian councilor Florencia Defeo presented a request for information after the derailment of the attraction at the Gonnet site on Sunday, June 30. In an interview with this media outlet, the councilor also referred to a similar situation during Garro’s administration in the City.

“We are seeing a lot of certain situations that alert us and the derailment was decisive, which was what triggered the immediate presentation on Sunday, June 30,” the councilor explained to this media.

He added: “This is happening now, but about a month ago there was another derailment that had no consequences for the people travelling. Likewise, in 2016, in January or February, something very similar to what happened on June 30 also happened.”
