The Resolution aimed at regulating maximum prices for the import of basic food items is being studied for its next implementation, Lourdes Rodríguez Ruiz, Vice Minister of Finance and Prices, informed the press yesterday.

In line with government projections, he pointed out that the regulation under study is an updated pricing policy, with a set of regulations, and within it, the temporary regulation of the maximum retail price of essential products.

Rodríguez Ruiz said that although the standard does not have the price levels that one could aspire to, it limits the rate of growth in food costs for Cuban families, regardless of what is available through the standardized family basket.

Nevertheless, “It is the power of local governments to define the prices agreed with state and non-state economic actors that pay taxes to satisfy the needs of the population”he stressed.

Similarly, he explained that this study has carried out an inclusive policy with the conditions of comprehensiveness, and “It is moving towards decentralization in the formation of prices, as well as in the role of the State in regulating the essential aspects of economic operations, in addition to those that have a fundamental weight in the life of the population.”
