Michelle Obama would be the only Biden replacement who could beat Trump, according to a poll

A poll conducted by the Reuters news agency and the Ipsos consulting firm revealed that former first lady Michelle Obama is the only Democrat who could defeat Republican Donald Trump in the US elections on November 5.

According to the study based on the opinion of 1,070 Americans, in a contest between the wife of former President Barack Obama and the Republican tycoon, she would win by a margin of 50 to 39 percent, which shows a resounding advantage against any forecast.

But last March, Michelle Obama ruled out being a presidential candidate, a statement she has reiterated several times over the years, since in 2016, she made it clear that she is not interested in politics, because she would not expose her daughters Malia and Sasha to a situation like that again.

However, after the disastrous first presidential debate, when current US president and candidate for re-election Joe Biden was seen stumbling and inconsistent in his arguments against Trump, the survey said that this situation worried one in three Democrats.

The poll also found that both Trump, 78, and Biden, 81, retain the support of 40% of registered voters, suggesting Biden has not lost ground since their debate on June 27.

Among the possible Democratic candidates to replace Biden, who obtained the best results, is Kamala Harris, with 45% of voting intention, against 47% for Trump; while others such as the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has 43%, against 48%; as well as the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg; and the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, has 42%, against 47% for Trump.
