Vox advisors demand that the primary sector not be a “bargaining chip” with China

Vox’s regional agriculture ministers have demanded that the agri-food sector, especially the pork sector, not be used as a “bargaining chip” in trade relations with China.

The regional ministers of Castile and Leon, the Valencian Community, Aragon and Extremadura with responsibilities in agriculture, livestock, rural development, food, fishing and forest management have warned of the “serious consequences for the pig sector” that the “announced retaliation by China” will have.

Beijing has launched an investigation into unfair competition in imports of European pork, which many analysts see as retaliation by the Asian giant to the European Union’s decision to apply additional tariffs of an average of 21% on imports of Chinese electric vehicles.

The councillors have called for the elimination of tariffs on electric cars to avoid retaliation from China.

Before participating tomorrow in the Sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development being held in Pamplona, representatives of VOX have expressed their discontent with the management of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, whom they have accused of “having abandoned the communities.”

In a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the ministers have requested that extraordinary aid be activated urgently due to the extreme drought affecting agricultural and livestock farms.

Other demands are related to the promotion of a new agricultural policy that “puts farmers and ranchers at the centre”, a new hydrological policy that focuses on irrigation, changes in agricultural insurance and a plan for livestock, including the sheep plan promised by Planas.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of Castilla y León, Gerardo Dueñas, has indicated that they want to move forward with measures to make plant and animal health more flexible in order to guarantee the competitiveness of agricultural and livestock farms, and to confront “unfair competition from third countries.”
