The Judiciary will evaluate on July 10 whether to extend the ban on former President of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, from leaving the country.

This occurs in the context of the proceedings against him for the alleged crime of rebellion.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that he be sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for his participation in the coup d’état ordered by former President Pedro Castillo in December 2022.

The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation will determine in this proceeding whether the ban on Torres leaving the country should be extended.

In this case, in addition to the former president and Torres, the former minister Betssy Chávez, the congressman and former minister of that government, Roberto Sánchez, the also former minister Willy Huerta, and the police officers Manuel Lozada, Jesús Venero and Eder Infanzón are also being prosecuted.

On December 7, 2022, Castillo issued a message to the Nation in which he ordered the closure of Congress and the reorganization of the Judiciary and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. He was subsequently arrested.
