Escobar expands the scope of the most important international certification in transparency and anti-corruption

The Municipality of Escobar extended the scope of the international ISO 37001 certification, the most important in anti-corruption and transparency, to three government areas. In 2021, this municipality had become the first government body in Argentina to obtain it. Since then, permanent audits have been carried out to ensure that the management system works correctly and thus maintain the validity of the certificate and be able to extend it. This year, the area of inspections was joined by those of purchases and authorizations. “Many talk about transparency, we do and act. Escobar is an example for the entire country when it comes to making anti-corruption actions a State policy. This international certification makes us permanently accountable for all processes and movements linked to public administration, before auditors and – most importantly – before the community. English:We continue to be a cutting-edge municipality that is not only committed to building the Escobar of the future, but also to generating good citizen practices,” said Mayor Ariel Sujarchuk. To achieve this new extension of the ISO 37001 standard, internal and external audits were carried out. First, on October 9 and 10, 2023, the consulting firm Intedya inspected the documentation of the Anti-Bribery Management System (SGAS). Subsequently, Staregister Internacional Inc. (a world-renowned certification entity) carried out an external audit in two phases: the first on April 9 and 10, 2024, and the second on April 29, 30, May 2 and 3. In order to comply with the requirements of the standard, training sessions were also held and an anonymous and confidential reporting channel was implemented, which can be accessed through the municipality’s website, at the link www.escobar.gob.ar/transparencia, in the “Communication channel against bribery” section. After the external audit and after there were no non-conformities, that is, non-compliance with ISO 37001 in the municipality’s system, the auditing entity recommended certification, sending its report to the evaluation committee, which finally approved and granted the certification. In this way, the Municipality of Escobar has once again taken a step forward in terms of transparency.
