The historic Pedro Gómez de Baeza, president of GBS Finance, has died of a heart attack at the age of 70, according to the entity. Gómez de Baeza led international financial institutions and served on numerous boards of directors.

An industrial engineer from the University of Madrid, he completed an MBA at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career at JP Morgan as a financial analyst. He specialized in mergers and acquisitions in the United States and Latin America.

Between 1982 and 1989 he was general manager of The First Boston Corporation in New York. He was then a member of the board of directors of the bank SG Warburg & Co in London. He was also a member of Petronor, Ebro Foods and Biosearch Life. In his later years he was president of LA Organic and LA Almazara by Starck. He was also a founding partner of Círculo Fortuny.
