As part of the policy of modernizing public transport through the use of information technologies, the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) implemented a technological platform, which is in the testing phase, for monitoring, controlling and managing public transport.

ATU President, Marybel Vidal (photo), explained that this platform seeks better management of the public transport systems of Lima and Callao and this pilot phase will allow the incorporation of new tools that contribute to the improvement of monitoring, control and management of transport vehicles.

He said that this tool will be used to verify that regular passenger transport companies comply with their assigned routes, through the GPS implemented in each vehicle. In this preliminary stage, work is being done with various units.

Having a GPS device in vehicles will be a requirement to be able to provide the service in Lima and Callao, under the new five-year authorization regime, which will be in effect upon approval of the Single Text of Administrative Procedures (TUPA).

It should be noted that according to a 2023 study conducted by Pulso PUCP, 71% of users perceive that urban transport companies do not comply with their assigned route. Real-time tracking of units, via GPS, will help to change this perception and improve the aforementioned service.

The system will soon display taxi and tourist transport stops and authorised routes.

FISCAL

The digital platform also includes FISCATU, through which the ATU will have real-time access to the inspection reports imposed on drivers stopped during inspection operations in Lima and Callao.

In addition, it will be possible to find out if the driver and the unit are authorized to provide the transport service. As well as if they have the Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT), the Vehicle Technical Inspection Certificate (CITV) and the interventions with the transfer of the vehicle to the depot. In the next few days, a link will be made available to users to access this part of the platform.
