Oaxaca, Oax.- Juan Carlos Chávez Martínez is an industrial engineer by profession and creator of the digital initiative “Epicentro Educativo”, a tool to regularize secondary and high school students from low-income and marginalized communities in Oaxaca.

The Oaxacan said that the educational tool provides free math tutoring, so that students regain their love for this science and lose the prejudices that exist around it.

He explained that the program is fully funded by sponsors who are willing to help these students.

Classes are taught through a WhatsApp group and a Facebook page, which gives students access to daily classes (two hours a day) via Zoom, and the idea is that by December of this year, there will already be a physical location where students can attend.

The author of “Educational Epicenter” said that a few years ago – recently graduated from college – he taught math, physics and chemistry classes at the now defunct Open High School Department of the State Institute of Public Education of Oaxaca. [IEEPO]and there he noticed that there were students with limited resources.

“I remembered that there are many low-income students who do not have access to academic remedial courses, much less the possibility of taking classes with good teachers,” he said.

She added that the idea of creating “Cultural Epicenter” also came about because in primary, secondary and high school she never had teachers who taught her to lose her fear of numbers.

Chávez Martínez said that students who decide to take the classes will be leveled in the areas of algebra, arithmetic and trigonometry, which are the areas that have the greatest learning difficulties.

“The idea is that students have tutoring with very good, very capable and very didactic teachers, so that they lose their fear of numbers and fall in love with mathematics,” he stressed.

Finally, the inventor of this tool urged citizens to make voluntary contributions to this great project.

“Education is the passport to the future, tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he concluded.
