Escobar expands its international certification in transparency and anti-corruption

The municipality of Escobar, headed by Peronist mayor Ariel Sujarchuk, has extended the scope of the international ISO 37001 certification, the most important in anti-corruption and transparency, to three government areas.

In 2021, Escobar became the first government agency in Argentina to obtain it, carrying out permanent audits to ensure that the management system works correctly and thus maintain the validity of the certificate and be able to extend it.

This year, the area of inspections was joined by those of purchases and permits, according to official information from the Greater Buenos Aires municipality.

“Many talk about transparency, but we do and act. Escobar is an example for the entire country when it comes to making anti-corruption actions a State policy. This international certification makes us permanently accountable for all processes and movements linked to public administration, before auditors and – most importantly – before the community. We continue to be a cutting-edge municipality that is not only committed to building the Escobar of the future, but also to generating good citizen practices,” said Sujarchuk.

Regarding audits, on October 9 and 10, 2023, the consulting firm Intedya inspected the documentation of the Anti-Bribery Management System (SGAS).

Subsequently, Staregister International Inc. (a world-renowned certification body) conducted an external audit in two phases: the first on April 9 and 10, 2024, and the second on April 29, 30, May 2 and 3.

In order to comply with the requirements of the regulation, training sessions were also held and an anonymous and confidential reporting channel was implemented, which can be accessed through the Municipality’s website, at the link, section “Communication channel against bribery”.

Following the external audit and there being no non-conformities, that is, non-compliance with ISO 37001 in the Municipality’s system, the auditing entity recommended certification, sending its report to the evaluation committee, which finally gave its approval and granted the certification.
